Curated / Private Group Workshops

My natural dye textile studio is open for guided personalized projects, exploring techniques, as well as private + curated group workshops.

If youโ€™ve ever been interested in learning indigo + natural dyes but have felt intimidated, not known where to start, or if you have a project in mind, and want assistance with itโ€ฆ this is a perfect way to receive guidance, gain confidence, and grasp the foundations of natural dyes.

  • Discover the magic and chemistry of an indigo vat. If you have ever longed to love and care for your own indigo vat, this is for you!

Learn about different kinds of vats and why you may choose one over the other. Experience building your own vat and learn to watch for all the signs the vat gives, letting you know what it needs.

Gain confidence feeding, balancing, and maintaining your own indigo vat.

  • I welcome beginners to advanced dyers to join me in the wonderful exploration of shibori. My first love in the world of natural dyes + indigo, something I began learning while living in Japan over 11 years ago.

Learn to create striking designs with a simple needle and thread. I will be sharing my tried and true tricks for ease of workflow, creating the tightest resists, how to avoid disappointment and embracing mistakes, and how to scale up, creating large designs.

Feel into the wisdom and hands of many makers before you, connecting to tradition and to a quiet serene place within yourself.

  • Prepare to be fascinated by the alchemy of fresh leaf indigo.

Experience the ancient wisdom of indigo in itโ€™s fresh leaf form. Persicaria tinctoria, also known as Japanese indigo, grows well in our PNW climate, and lucky for us, this indigotin producing plant packs a lot of punch.

  • Learn mordant immersion dyeing on natural fibres - cellulose and protein. Come to understand the foundations of how natural colour binds to cloth, the different factors that can impact colour, workflow for a project and all the best practices to achieve even, long-lasting colour.

Once you learn the foundations, you can approach any dye source, including local and foraged colour, bundle dyeing and more.

  • This is a fun and playful way to approach natural dyes. Itโ€™s also a great activity for young people.

Source fresh colour from the flowers in your garden, leaves on your nature walks, food scraps in your kitchen and dyes in the studio. Invite pops of colour onto cloth in a creative flowing way.

  • Learn the foundations for immersion natural dyeing which pairs perfectly with quilting. Create your own palettes and play with all the subtleties of shade.

If you have ever dreamed of creating your own colours for quilting, this is sure to open up a whole new world of creative potential!

  • If you love an unplanned approach to creativity, where your spontaneous creative self takes the lead, this is a perfect craft to delve into. This is also a great exercise if you are a perfectionist, leading you to follow your intuition and create.

When scrap quilting with natural dyes, a whole new world opens up - as the colours from nature dance together so perfectly!

  • If you have a stack of garments piling up, waiting for you to mend themโ€ฆthis is for you! Or perhaps you have a favourite piece that you are looking to breathe new life into.

Learn stitching, patching and mending techniques that make the old clothes in your wardrobe new.

Sometimes stains threaten to ruin our clothesโ€ฆbut I am determined to empower a world that knows what to do when a stain rains on your parade. There are many approaches we can take, over dyeing, visible mending, shibori and more.

Since becoming a mom, this has become an essential skill at keeping a kiddos wardrobe alive!
